Tangible history

The last Olotins beds

The Olotin beds, born in the 18th century and spread throughout the 19th century, had a long history marked by craftsmanship and the beauty of painted wood. Over the years, their production gradually died out: tastes changed, industrial furniture arrived and the traditional craft was relegated to memory.

The bed preserved at Can Xisquet is exceptional, because it is one of the last beds in Olot that were made to order. It no longer responded to a regular production, but to the family's desire to keep alive a tradition that had given personality to so many homes in Old Catalonia and beyond.

This bed is, therefore, a testament to how an almost extinct craft still found its way thanks to personal commission and appreciation for the beauty of ancient crafts. A unique legacy that, at Can Xisquet, keeps alive the memory of the last beats of a tradition.
