Tangible history
Painted spanish style carved wooden headboard
The so-called Spanish beds are the result of the Gothic revival of the 19th century, when Romanticism turned its gaze towards the medieval past, seeking majesty and solemnity.

They are recognized by the use of dark woods, such as walnut or oak, which provide gravity and presence. The turned headboards and feet, with slender columns, draw a miniature architecture within the room. The vertical and pointed shapes evoke the pinnacles and arches of cathedrals, creating a feeling of strength and rigor that contrasts with the luminosity and painted detail of the Olot beds.
The Spanish bed of Can Xisquet is exceptional: unlike most, which showed only the bare wood, this one was painted, adding a singular character that makes it unique within its type. A piece that unites the solidity of a severe style with the more friendly and personalized imprint of decorative painting.
