Tangible history
Nimfes d'aigua
The oral tradition of Montseny is full of legends, and among the most deeply rooted are the Paitides or water women. Mysterious and seductive beings, they inhabited the springs and ponds, and were described as young men of dazzling beauty, with golden hair and resplendent dresses.

Viladrau is one of the privileged settings: its springs and streams have fueled stories of sudden encounters with these magical women for centuries. It was said that they could offer wealth and fortune to those who respected them, but also misfortune to those who dared to betray their trust.
Their figure has a very ancient background, linked to the cults of water as a source of life and fertility. Over time, the popular imagination turned them into protagonists of stories full of mystery and beauty, to the point that today the water women are an inseparable part of the cultural identity of Viladrau and Montseny.
